about

"A Vessel in Orbit - 1995-2001" was released the day before duel's bassplayer Daniel Wallón died after battling cancer. He was 36. The last weeks of his life, Daniel worked very hard with us at Dither and the band to compile this album. It is pleasing to know that he lived to see its release online.

duel (they've always insisted on typing their name this way) was an underground swedish shoegaze act, and with three guitars in their original line-up, they really knew how to build that Spector-esque wall of sound. Taking their name from a Swervedriver song didn't help much hiding their influences, but there is clearly something original in the mix too. It is evident that the melodic content is above par for the scene, and that guitars, bass and drums often intertwine in ways seldom heard elsewhere.

Originally, the three demos "duel", "Fumble" and "Last Truckstop" were released on cassette and changed hands at gigs and via mail. We've tried to ensure that the original intent of band and producer have been secured without adding or subtracting anything vital to the sound.

Listening to young bands of today beeing influenced by My Bloody Valentine, Ride et al, it isn't far fetched to think that we've come full circle and that the world needs to hear these remastered versions of duel's songs. It is also fitting that the film "Anyone Can Play Guitar" about big stars and also-rans of the Oxford scene will premiere soon - duel could definitely be one of these bands. But beeing a band from the outskirts of nowhere in Sweden, you usually end up with a dusty box with your demos hidden behind all the stuff you keep in the basement. But not this time.

As a label, we think it is appropriate that all our proceedings from this album goes to Edit Wallón, Daniel's daughter. Hopefully she'll grow up and be proud of her father's interlocked groove with the drums, and share his love for the music. Who knows, maybe one day she will play that four-bar intro to "A Hundred" herself and find comfort and inspiration in the beat, melody and noise that ensues.

Mattias Beijmo, CEO, Dither Music and Noise. Producer of "Fumble" and "Last Truckstop".

The physical release is a very special edition of 100 copies in a metal box. You can order it here.

Track Name: A Hundred
A Hundred

Arizona is cool she said
Let’s go away she said
Let’s leave the twin cities behind
Let’s go through the desert sun

I can’t say I’m sorry
Can you?
I rather break it up
Than fuck it up again
Well I don’t care

Arizona is cool she said
Let’s go away she said
A Dodge Lancer through New Mexico
Please I don’t want to go

I can’t say I’m sorry
Can you?
I rather break it up
Than fuck it up again
Well I don’t care

Lyrics: Johan Härdfeldt
Track Name: Wisher
Wisher

Drive into the instant sun
Don’t let me be the one
The clouds came out of nowhere today
You’re kind of in panic now
Trying to figure your way out
Don’t try to get me going too

Don’t try to hide it
Your eyes turn black again
No use denying it
‘Cos I know, yes I know for sure

I don’t care ‘bout this no more
You can’t persuade me no, no
Feels like the wind turned my way
You feel defeated now
Well I just can’t see how
No tears are going to change this now

Don’t try to hide it
Your eyes turn black again
No use denying it
‘Cos I know, yes I know for sure

Lyrics: Daniel Björklund
Track Name: Non-expensive (Fee)
Non-expensive (Fee)

Her way was kind of special
Her eyes disguised
She started without warning
She sold me out

Make me faithful
Never leave
Fly beside me
Will still come out clean
Miles ahead of
What we’ve seen
Close behind me
Non-expensive fee
Doesn’t bother me

While the streets still craves
As no-one’s safe and sound

While the streets still craves
As no-one’s safe and sound

Just let the truth be there for you

Lyrics: Daniel Björklund
Track Name: Stellar Sky
Stellar sky

Take me out to the stellar sky
Can see a nova pass me by

Is this really real
Can you reveal me

What is real here
Am I in your atmosphere
Seeking answers

Can see your thoughts inside my dreams
Hope it’s not what it seems

Is this really real
Tell me how do you feel

I’m loosing it
I’m afraid I can’t make it
You pass me by
On the way to the stellar sky

Lyrics: Johan Härdfeldt
Track Name: Truckstop #4
Truckstop #4

My dreams are made for you
Do you want me to
Shut my mouth ‘cos it
Involve things that ain’t real
Just the way I feel
And I don’t know if it’s right or..

Don’t look at me
Just want to find
Don’t look at me
Just need some time

Now that you are all ears
I can’t make myself clear
Just fumbling around and it’s
Not my place to regain my fate
And I don’t know if it’s right or..

Don’t look at me
Just want to find
Don’t look at me
Just need some time

I’m feeling rather old
Maybe you’ve been told
That things going to change as you
Turn twentyfive you just want to hide
And I don’t know if it’s right or..

Don’t look at me
Just want to find
Don’t look at me
Just need some time

Lyrics: Daniel Björklund
Track Name: Soulreliever
Soulreliever

Saw your crying eyes again
Look through my disguise again
Closed my eyes

Got to move on right away
No use staying anyway, anyway

You saw it coming
And despite of all my lies you didn’t say
I couldn’t show it
I was blinded, really blinded

We just talked the days away
Finally knowing what to say…

You remind me all the time
Of my viciousness but I
No longer cry

You saw it coming
And despite of all my lies you didn’t say
Now a new morning
And it’s over, really over

Sell my soul to me…

Lyrics: Daniel Björklund
Track Name: Fumble
Fumble

So I stumble
Never fumble
I never fumble

Leave you behind me
Why should I care
Did you ever care for me
Leaving you behind me

“There is no use
To stay here”
She said and went away
Went away

Leave you behind me
Why should I care
Did you ever care for me
Leaving you behind me – now

Lyrics: Johan Härdfeldt
Track Name: As Just
As Just

Same days
Different ways

You called- too soon
You called- too soon
You called- too soon
Too soon – as just

Situations
Expectations

You called- too soon
You called- too soon
You called- too soon
Too soon – as just

You called me off
You called me off
You called me off
You called me off too soon

Lyrics: Johan Härdfeldt
Track Name: Dreams
Dreams

Dreams of desire
Why don’t you fly in
Into my consciousness
I’d miss you less if you
Stayed in my dreams of desire

Lyrics: Daniel Björklund
Track Name: Delirious
Delerious

Try to stay in focus screaming
Going through this bad dream pleasing
And if you should remember

I know that you don’t want to listen
I know that you don’t want to wait forever

Holding on to things we’ve been through
Getting dizzy just to see you
And if you should remember

I know that you don’t want to listen
I know that you don’t want to wait forever

Take me to the other side
Take me to the other side

Lyrics: Daniel Björklund
